dcsimg IoT Lab | Chicago Connectory

From design to build, from hardware to software.

IoT Lab

Welcome to the lab

At the Chicago Connectory, members have exclusive access to an IoT prototyping lab equipped with numerous devices including Dremel 3D printers, Bosch XDK sensors, a Voltera V-1, and a state-of-the-art Dremel Laser Cutter. The lab is managed by Windy City Lab whose experienced team is available to support members with any hardware or software aspect of their IoT business.

Dev Boards & Sensors

The IoT Lab has a full array of Microcontroller Development Boards which can be used to prototype member's IoT products. Additionally, the lab has Bosch XDK programmable sensors, allowing users to prototype any IoT application they have in mind.

PCB Prototypes using Voltera V-1

Create custom printed circuit boards (PCB) at the Chicago Connectory by simply loading a gerber and clicking print. About an hour later, a two-layer PCB will be completed for testing.

Dremel 3D Printers & OnShape Licence

The prototyping lab is home to numerous Dremel 3D printers, which allow members to design and build models of their product. Additionally, members have an OnShape license (worth $2,100 a year) included in their membership, giving them free access to a product design platform.

Dremel Laser Cutter

The IoT Lab is home to a state-of-the-art Dremel Laser cutter, which gives members the ability to create product enclosures and custom PCBs when designing a prototype. Simply export a JPEG, PNG, PDF or SVG file into the Dremel Laser Cutter software.

Windy City Lab

Windy City Lab (WCL) specializes in consulting, workshops and CTO services in hardware, software and firmware for IoT products. Founded in 2018, WCL is specialized in helping IoT startups master the "IoT Start-up Challenge". There are many challenges when developing a hardware or a software product, and yet more when developing a connected product. The challenges range from architecture, prototyping, setting up cloud services, wireless communication, schematic design, firmware power management and more. Chicago Connectory members have access to Windy City Lab as walk-ins and are also invited to attend their weekly lunch-and-learns that cover the different challenges faced by IoT startups.
